Description: This is a decent, well used Winchester Model 1873 .22 Caliber Take-down. It has a standard 24" octagon barrel, crescent butt and standard sights. The front sight is, however, an ivory bead Sheard style sight. The mechanics are good, including the inner magazine tube and take-down function. The bore is typically well corroded from black powder, but even, with traces of rifling. There were 19,552 .22's produced from 1884 to 1904. This is an ANTIQUE so no FFL is necessary.

It is very important to note that only some 300 of these .22's had the take-down capability and were only offered for a year in catalogs. Most were pinned and peened over to make them solid frames, as the TD function tended to loosen and the taper pin which held the front and back together was often lost. Many were returned to the factory for this procedure, and some were altered before they left the first time, rather than wasting parts or guns.

The serial number of 210851 on the lower tang puts its manufacture in 1886, but the gun does not letter under that serial number with the Winchester Museum. So, although the rifle is all original, it has had the lower tang replaced at some time. There is another number stamped into the bottom right flat of the barrel under the forearm which reads "IC 160147". I have no certain idea what that means or why it's in that particular place, but it may be the original serial number, meaning a production date of 1884.
