This 1942 BYF-manufactured beauty has matching numbers for the receiver and floor plate, but thanks to the brain-dead Russians of the time, the bolt, safety, and other hardware do not. However, this rare example still has the blued butt plate and bolt and receiver that were the standard wartime production. The laminate stock has the dark walnut color traditional with these rifles, and, moreover, the stock is free of splits, gouges, dings, and stock repairs that frequently mar the value of these battlefield relics. Bolt face and lugs show no wear that I can see, and the bore is best described as "meaty," that is, lands and grooves are sharp and clear. There's no muzzle erosion, nor is there rust or freckling in the bore. As an added bonus, the rifle comes with an authentic reproduction bayonet with scabbard. The rifle is a "shooter," as was shown when we function tested it for accuracy and safety before putting it up for auction. I haven't seen a Mauser 98K in this fine a condition in a long, long time. They have just about vanished from the used gun market, and I don't really expect that they will ever come back. All the ones I know of are in private collections, and they will never come out.
