Manufacturer and Warrantor is Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Type is full time double action striker fired locked breech semi automatic pistol. Construction is polymer frame and trigger assembly, with steel frame inserts and working parts. Slide and barrel are stainless steel. Barrel is 4 inch six groove 1:16 right hand rifling, and has a loaded chamber indication port at its rear. Slide is serrated fore and aft, 1 inch wide at the port. Sights are dovetailed front and rear, black polymer with white dot inserts, drift adjustable only for windage. Frame has a two slot integral picatinny rail for light or accessory mounting. Trigger is two piece polymer .350 smooth face, and pulls at 8 pounds vicinity with 7/8 inch of travel. This SD40 has a trigger safety and firing pin safety, but no lever or magazine safety. Magazine release is not reversable to our knowledge. Magazine is factory stainless, holds 14 rounds of .40 S&W caliber ammunition, so 14 + 1 fully loaded capacity. Weight empty is 22 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. Surface detractions on this SW40V are minimal, only a couple of streaks on the slide edges.
