Here is a revolver that was always one of our best sellers in the 1990s. We got our first Rossi .38 Revolvers in the 1960s, and they have been staples ever since. Here is a model 335, Smith & Wesson J Frame type. From its D780000 range serial number, we estimate it was manufactured in the mid to late 1980s. Manufacturer was Amadeo Rossi S.A. of Sao Leopoldo, Brazil. Importer was Mr. Sam Cummings at Interarms, #10 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA. Construction is entirely steel metal. Type is double and single action revolver, with hammer nose firing pin and transfer bar internal safety device. Barrel is one piece, 2 inch six groove right hand 1:18.75 rifling, pinned into the frame. Note the crowned muzzle and mill marks on the front sight; this was because these had to come in with 3 inch barrels for several years, and Interarms cut them in house to 2 inch, because of size constraints under the 1968 Gun Control Act. Sights are barrel integral serrated blade front, with frame integral fixed notch rear sight. Cylinder is chambered for .38 Smith & Wesson Special caliber only, and capacity is 5 rounds. Trigger is .312 serrated face, with matching .415 semi target short serrated spur hammer. Grip frame is Square Butt type. Grips are original factory Rossi Brazilian Walnut Magna type. Weight empty is a well balanced 19 1/2 ounces, with center of gravity at the rear cylinder face. Overall length is 7 inches; height is 4 3/4 inches, cylinder diameter is 1.315 inches; and grip thickness is 1.2 inches. Surface detractions on this 88 are only moderate, principally edge wear and finish freckling that is not readily conspicuous. We rate it as Very Good, 80 to 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade by themselves. Double action trigger is smooth and consistent 11 pound vicinity; and the single action pull measures a crisp original 4 pounds with negligible felt creep and minimal overtravel. Hammer travels an additional 5 to 10 degrees after the cylinder times on both double and single action. Blast effect to the under side of the frame top strap directly above the barrel’s forcing cone is negligible, only a faint impress with no depth. Carbon and cylinder rotation marking are minimal. We do not believe this revolver has been fired more than 100 times, and that not with +P Ammunition. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures a perfectly fitted .007.
