Accepted Payment Methods: Returns: 3 Days Description: The Heckler & Koch MK23 is a handgun system consisting of a match grade semi-automatic pistol, a laser aiming module (LAM), and a suppressor. It was adopted by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for special operations units in the 1990s. While the term “MK23” applies to the complete system, it commonly refers to the pistol only. The pistol itself, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, was developed by Heckler & Koch, and was selected over the Colt Offensive Handgun Weapon System (OHWS) through USSOCOM's Offensive Handgun Weapon System program. Military versions of the firearm have the writing "MK23 USSOCOM" engraved on the slide; commercial or civilian versions do not. The MK23 is considered a match grade pistol capable of making a 2-inch group at 50 yards, roughly 4 MOA. The pistol is capable of using the special high-pressure match cartridges produced as .45+P ammunition. HK23 production began in 1991, and became the basis for the HK USP, which began production in 1993. The MK23 has exceptional durability in harsh environments, being waterproof and corrosion-resistant. It uses a polygonal barrel design, which is reported to improve accuracy and durability. It features an ambidextrous safety and magazine release on both sides of the frame. The magazine release is at the rear edge of the trigger guard. The trigger guard is wide enough to allow the use of gloves. A decocking lever on the left side will silently lower the cocked hammer. During testing, MK 23 pistols met the most stringent operational and accuracy requirements ever demanded of a combat handgun. Endurance testing demonstrated a service life of over 30,000 rounds using .45+P ammunition. To meet the reliability requirement, the pistol had to demonstrate a minimum of 2,000 mean rounds between stoppages (MRBS) with both M1911 .45 ACP ball and .45+P ammunition. All pistols exceeded the 2000 MRBS, delivering an average of 6000 MRBS. In more than 450 accuracy test firings from a precision firing fixture at 25 meters, MK 23 pistols far exceeded the government requirement, averaging 1.44 inches, with 65 groups of less than one inch.
