Here is Smith & Wesson’s K-22 Masterpiece numbered model 17, fourth engineering change. This 17-4 comes to us from the estate of its original owner. From its 33K Serial Number Prefix, it left the Springfield Plant in 1978. Grip frame butt, main frame, and right grip panel numbers are all matching, 4 digit on the grip. Type is Rim Fire Traditional Double and Single Action Swingout Revolver. Construction is entirely steel metal, with Goncalo Alves factory magna / service type grips on a K / Medium square butt grip frame that is serrated fore and aft. Barrel is rivet pinned into the frame, 6 inch medium tapered, .695 outside diameter at the muzzle and .721 osd at the frame. Sights are welded blade serrated ramp partridge front, .640 above the bore, with serrated center solid rib, and serrated base windage and elevation adjustable black blade rear. Cylinder is recessed or counterbored rear face, holds six rounds of .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle caliber ammunition interchangeably. Ignition is flat hammer face against floating firing pin, also pinned into place through the frame. Trigger is .250 serrated face, with .375 semi target serrated spur hammer. Safety mechanism is internal transfer bar. Overall lenght is 11 1/4 inches, with 5 inch height, and 1.46 diameter by 1.63 length cylinder. Weight empty is 39 3/8 ounces, with center of gravity mid cylinder. Finish is brushed surface blued steel laterals and lower, matte uppers, color casehardened hammer and trigger, and gloss finish grips. Surface detractions on this K-22 are minimal, principally some freckling on the left upper frame between the barrel and cylinder, and dot freckles on on cylinder chamber exterior. We rate it as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chambers, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Front cylinder face carbon is minimal, and cylinder rotation marking is minimal, so we estimate this revolver was fired fewer than 200 times. It is in its original box with instruction manual, ammunition flyer, ammo caution card, leather goods flyer, protective Nox paper, brown tissue paper, and cleaning kit with cotton mop and black nylon bore brush.
