From its original local West Tennessee owner comes this Savage Model 62 semi auto .22 caliber rifle. From this one’s 0102000 range serial number, we estimate it was manufactured in 1996 or 1997. Manufacturer was Savage Arms of Lakefield, Ontario. Importer and warrantor was Savage Arms of Westfield, MA. Type is blowback action, tube fed rimfire semi automatic. Chambering is .22 Long Rifle caliber, High Velocity ammunition. Construction is steel barrel, receiver, bolt, and internal parts with alloy magazine, mag release, and trigger, all assembled into a one piece black graphite synthetic stock. The trigger guard is integral to the stock. Barrel is 22 inch 1:16 eight groove right hand rifling. The model 62’s barrel laid the groundwork for the Mark II and model 64 series whose accuracy is well respected. Sights are dovetailed blade front, with dovetailed, step elevator rear. Note that this 62’s front sight is damaged, but it has a good 3x9 scope anyway. Receiver is grooved for 3/8 inch .22 type scope rings. Magazine holds 10 rounds of .22 Long Rifle ammunition, 10 + 1 fully loaded capacity; and the magazine will interchange with current production Mark II and model 64 Rifles. Bolt operation handle is oversized serrated, and depresses to lock the bolt open. Trigger is .265 smooth faced chrome plated, with right side forward pushing safety for right handed shooters. Buttstock length of pull measures 13 inches from the trigger face to the end of the butt plate. Stock has checkered surface lateral panels at the forend and pistol grip areas, with factory logo grip cap. Drop is 1 1/2 inches at the comb and 2 1/2 inches at the butt, with a 3/4 inch right hand cant. This is not a southpaw friendly rifle. Trigger is two stage, pulls at 5 pounds with minimal felt creep and overtravel. Metal finish is its original blue. Surface detractions are minimal, principally inconspicuous finish freckling and equally inconspicuous streaking on the stock sides. We rate this Stevens as Very Good, close to Excellent, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. Scope body and lenses are excellent. We estimate it has been fired fewer than 1000 rounds. Replacement pricing its descendent Savage 64 in our area is upwards of $200. We’re offering the 1990s model 62 in the photos, however, for only $ 119.00.
