The barrel is not original to the rest of the rifle and the barrel has been drilled & tapped for mounting a scope. (Barrel is 19"). OCT 7th '79 (1879) is behind the trigger, and is the patent date assigned to John M. Browning for the design of this rifle. Winchester bought the patent from John M. Browning in December of 1883, and began production of the Model 1885 in September of 1885. It is in very good condition. Minor surface scratches on the stock.
