Over the years, they have produced quite a variety of single-shot rifles and shotguns, each one intended to fulfill a specific role. The Ultra Rifle or Ultra Varmint, is H&R’s answer to those looking for an affordable hunting rifle chambered for the popular .204 Ruger. It has a 24-inch heavy barrel, which is fluted for faster cooling. The synthetic buttstock has a skeletonized format that combines the best of pistol-grip mobility with the aiming comfort of a thumbhole stock. The stock even has a vertical adjustment knob for shooting from the bench. The grooved fore-end has an adjustable insert for mounting a bipod. The rifle here includes a scope base for mounting the desired rings and scope. The rifle is excellent condition. The bore has good rifling and the bluing is excellent. There was a small bit of wear on the right side but it is so small you have to look closely to notice it. If you are looking for an affordable, single-shot rifle in the 204 Ruger, the H&R Ultra Rifle is a fine choice.
