Smith A1 12 gauge with ejectors and 30-inch Damascus steel barrels. Supported by a factory letter from 1976, serial number 943 was built for Dr. William T. Corlett of Cleveland, Ohio, and shipped to the G. Worthington Company on September 12, 1893. A leather takedown case with the good doctor’s nameplate has survived all these years to be included. His initials are also engraved in an oval on the toe line. Chambers are 2.75 inches and chokes are F/F. Engraving is highlighted by a well-executed pointer (left), a setter (right) and pair of woodcock (trigger guard), all in turn supported by a bordered and scroll pattern that extends over the entire action, surrounds the forend release button and continues along the length of the tangs. The butt plate screw heads are also engraved. CONDITION: Bores are bright and absent pitting. Ejectors pop like champagne corks. The barrel twist pattern remains largely intact but browning overall. Action colors stand at about 40% and appear original. Engraving is sharp. Forend wood is solid, with ebony tip inlay and viable fine checkering. Stock has been cracked at the grip and recently repaired to stabilize. The finish is otherwise good and appears to be original, as does the butt plate. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 7.4 pounds.
