Heavy octagon 40 Caliber barrel chambered for 2 1/2" Shell Case. Barrel length is approx. 26" and overall length is approx. 45 1/2". Original sights intact, the barrel marked "Old Reliable", Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeprot, Conn USA. Barrel SN is 18131. The left side above fore stock is stamped “CAL 40 2 ½”. Receiver retains a silver gray patina with light scattered pin prick pitting, marked Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeport Conn over SN 18131 and Pat Dec 1876. Steel serrated butt plate. Action is smooth with a good bore. The walnut stocks were in the process of being replaced and fore stock still needs to be finished. From what I can ascertain there was only around 40 of these "Business Rifles with 40/70 Octagon Barrel" made. It hasn’t been shot for a few years, but is from the Phoenix area.
