This pistol is engraved and gold filled with the following; on the left side of the barrel is the 24-karat gold inscription, "Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1863." The right side of the barrel is similarly marked, "We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain”. The cylinder is lavishly inlaid with a gold scene of men in combat and a a battle scene. A cannon surrounded by five stars is etched in gold on each side of the frame. It comes in a finished hardwood box, with a leather insert featuring a silhouette of a soldier, (who appears to be Robert E. Lee,) and the words, “Gettysburg / 1863”, inlaid in gold. The inside of the box is purple velvet, and contains a gold plate which is engraved, “Gettysburg 1863 Revolver / Authorized by / United States Society of Arms & Armor”. There is a parchment copy of the Gettysburg Address, as written and delivered by Abraham Lincoln on that site. There are also highly figured, solid brass Union and Confederate belt buckles, inset into recesses in the box. 1/1000.
