This fine example of Japan's early war production shows their excellent attention to detail and high standards of manufacturing. This rifle has the "mum" still intact and quite clear. Arsenal production markings are clear on the receiver. I can't attest to all matching numbers because the rifle was purchased as part of a lot of Type 99's from an estate. But it appears, from all that I can see, that it is period correct, intact, and perfectly functioning. Most metal parts retain their bluing, and the wood is without cracks, dings, mars, or serious blemishes. The rifle (chrome lined) has sharp lands and grooves, without rust or pitting. The story that came with this lot of rifles is that they were used in some recent Hollywood World War 2 movies--maybe Pacific or maybe Hacksaw Ridge. They were not clear about which movie it was. You don't see WW 2 Japanese surplus rifles in anywhere near this nice of a condition very frequently. The rifle has been dry-fired, but not shot. It comes with an authentic and period correct Japanese sword type bayonet. The frog is a reproduction, but complements the bayonet nicely and completes the overall package.
