Description: This is an extremely rare gun of a style used by the Japanese Army. THIS NOT THE "MADE BY THE CHINESE FOR THE CHINESE" VERSION I ALSO OWN AND HAVE LISTED BEFORE. I am the ONLY person in the US to one of each.

This pistol was made in China FOR the Japanese Army during WWII. This type of firearm is listed in Derby’s exceptional book “Hand Cannons of Imperial Japan” in the chapter titled “Sugiura Shiki -Made in China”. It is similar to a Browning 1903 and the Colt 1903 in external appearance but unique in many internal ways. It is semi-auto in 7.65 mm and has a magazine holding 8 rounds. The internal parts, in the tradition of Japanese firearms of the era, have the last digits of the base serial number on them (see pictures)

Much is still unknown about these rare Japanese pistols with the total number produced estimated to be around 6,000 but the known examples in collections worldwide numbering at about 31 of the Japanese ones and about 14 of the Chinese style. The production breaks roughly into the first 3,000 pistols made directly under Japanese supervision and then a change of control for the factory to be under the Chinese communist with the serial number range sequence maintained the final ~3,000 pistols manufactured.

This example is the Japanese production model (serial number 1832) with matching numbers (except the magazine which is original and correct but numbered to #895). This pistol shows a more refined workmanship and finish typical to the Japanese production run. This particular example has approximately 85% of the finish left and functions perfectly in every way. There is VERY minor pitting in some areas where the finish has been affected. The majority (90%+) of the affected areas have no pitting at all (see pics). Whatever was in contact and caused the finish to be gone was not a significant rust issue. The pistol has a very attractive and unique look and feel to it. You won't be disappointed in this rare pistol! I DO NOT recommend it be fired and it is sold ONLY as a static example of a rare collectible firearm.
