This is a very rare Marlin 1893 saddle ring short rifle "trapper carbine" 

 in .30-30. From my research, only around 60 of this model 1893s were made, and even fewer were made with a saddle ring. These don't come up for sale very often. Rock Island Auction recently had one listed with a value estimate between $5500 and $8500. I have this priced on the very low end. This rifle definitely has a story to tell!
