The man was IMHO the father of modern body armor, as he noticed the rudimentary Japanese body armor mitigating some damage & went from there. The bayonet has the matching manufacturing "8 ball" stamp & is the early war hooked quillion design. The hook was used to snag the Marine’s bayonet & then flip the gun out of his hands, the Marines changed their parry tactics based on this . Later war year bayonets had just a flat piece as obviously the war wasn't going so well & shortcuts were taken. I will get a notarized statement from the nephew if desired, he stated he would provide that no problem. The gun shoots very well, I ran a box of ammo thru it myself.
