The cartridge was the No 56 Sharps and Hankins metallic cartridge. The barrel has 6 groves & lands with very slight pitting but edges are crisp could clean up bright and sharp, originally covered with black leather no longer on it. Mechanism is very good condition, all working parts operate well. This Sharps & Hankins Model 1862 is a great representative arm of the Civil War Federal Navy. One just sold on Horsesoldier.com sight for $ 1250 with a cracked stock. This stock is solid walnut original. Butt plate brass in fair condition but no cracks.
