John Rigby & Co. .470 NE boxlock ejector double rifle. Serial number 383322 is a wonderfully appointed dangerous game rifle with 24-inch PacNor match grade barrels that wear a scalloped front ramp topped by a brass-beaded blade, sling swivel stud, scalloped rib with a pair of express drift-adjustable rear sight leafs (one fixed marked "50 Yards" and one folder marked "150 Yards") each with a gold sighting line. Additional features include side clips, manual tang safety, tuned triggers, trapdoor grip cap, beavertail forend, traditional (pancake) scalloped cheek rest with shadow line, counterweighted stock and a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. ENGRAVING: Engraved by Rigby's finest, Lisa Tomlin (signed under the guard), the action bottom showcases a glowering Cape buffalo bust surrounded by bold scroll, the accenting pattern continuing over the balance of the action and forend furniture, along the tangs and across the trap door. "470 NE" appears on the rib, the safety position is indicated with a gold "S", the trapdoor bears the Rigby addorsed Rs and the guard shows initials "JPB" in gold. The barrel flats are jeweled. FINISHES: Barrels, top lever, forend furniture, guard, lower tang, grip cap and studs are satin blue. The action is satin nickel over color case. The wood finish is, of course, hand-rubbed oil. WOOD: Shaped from an English walnut blank set with an outstanding sunburst of rich crossing grain and accented by flawless bordered checkering, the quality of the woodwork rivals that of the engraving. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 12.8 pounds (including the counterweight). Length-of-pull is 14.8 inches and drops are 1.4 and 2.25 inches. Cast off is approximately .375-inch. CONDITION: Unfired since delivery to the original owner. Blue stands at approximately 97 percent, with slight evidence of storage and handling. One tiny metal impression appears over the right chamber. Action finish and engraving are at least 99 percent. Wood is approximately 98 percent, with a very modest scattering of assembly and handling impressions. INCLUSIONS: An Americase takedown airline case with embroidered Rigby logo inside the upper lid, snaps, sling swivels, Murray leather cobra sling and keys is included. The case remains in exceptional condition inside and out. AMMUNITION: Available separately are 23 boxes of 500-grain Federal Cape-Shok ammunition (10 boxes of Woodleigh solids and 13 boxes of Woodleigh Weldcore soft points) for $2,750 including shipping within the lower 48.
