Frame is serial numbered 2905X, steel backstrap is numbered 2905X, grips are also numbered 2905X. The frame is really nice showing 50% factory case hardening. Crisp Colt's Pt. Markings. The backstrap and trigger guard show a patina. The grips show the removal or a marking which was probably Upper or Lower Canada. The shortened barrel is marked #2928X shows British marks and is in fair condition, was shortened years ago and was cracked or blown. The full sized barrel is marked #16072X, has been reblued and the barrel address has been removed. I date the barrel to much later production, during the civil war, mid 1863. I'm a bit unsure to the year of manufacture of this. The London model 1851 Navies were made in 1853 to 1857 and the Canada Models were in the middle of those production ranges. Standard 1851 Navy production with these serial ranges is 1853. The original cylinder I have with this is definitely original but pretty rough. It has considerable pitting and the the engraved scene is long gone. I refused to buy any modern Colt hardware or later generation percussion Colt parts on this revolver. I wanted to maintain the revolver with entirely antique Colt 1851 Navy parts. I was chasing down a nicer original cylinder for this and a few screws to complete it and get it together but I got caught up with some other projects.
