The A.H. Fox XE Grade is truly one of the most handsome American doubles ever produced, with its deeply carved oak leaf engraving on the receiver and barrel wedges, long elegant forends with the buffalo horn inlay cut to a slight schnabel, rebated frames to keep the head of the stock from spreading, frame filed to the shape of the barrels all the way to the top rib, locking screws on the top action screw, delightful checkering on Circassian walnut stocks, all coming together to make a stunning double shotgun. The XE Grade Fox came standard with ejectors and a Silvers pad, and special attention was paid to the chambers, bores, and chokes to create a highly refined shooting machine. This 1920 gun, sn25296 is no exception. Factory production card confirms the gun is in the same configuration as shipped, and all parts are original to the gun. The pad (present pad is a genuine Silvers replacement, gun shipped with Silvers pad but it was mushroomed), barrel length, stock, and chokes, are as shipped from the factory. THIS GUN IS A VERY HARD TO FIND, UNMOLESTED, FOX XE, as found and ready for another several generations of shooting. Finding a Fox XE that hasn't been "messed with" and still has perfect screws, perfect wood to metal fit, and enough factory original condition left to make it interesting is becoming a thing of the past. We considered restoring this gun to new but decided to let the next owner make that decision and to leave the gun available to the guys that want it with the "badges of honor" she has earned serving its owners for the last 95 years. We can fully restore the gun to historically correct finishes right here in our own shop if you so choose, and for a very reasonable price. Thanks for looking!
