Winchester Model 21 Trap 16ga. - FACTORY 2 BARREL SET, AS NEW, RARE!!!
The word "rare" is often overused by some describing guns, but sometimes it is appropriate, like this time. Model 21 Trap Grades in 16ga. are scarce; far fewer 16's were made than 20's or 12's. Add the factory lettered second set of barrels and you have very unusual. Then add the special order stock with factory cheek piece and we likely are viewing a ONE-OF-A-KIND MODEL 21! Many guns are sold as "factory" 2 barrels sets that are not. Having the letter detail the gun to a "t" settles all questions. The letter that comes with this gun, and the factory production sheet, both detail this gun down to the circumference of the wrist (5" and bigger than average), chokes, stock dimensions, etc. and the gun matches as it shipped in 1935. THIS IS A SPECIAL MODEL 21- a gun with versatility; made for heavy shooting at 7lbs. 5oz. with the 26" barrels, 7lbs. 9oz. with the 30's, superbly choked between the two sets to cover Skeet, SPORTING CLAYS, and Trap, as well as nearly any upland hunting you may encounter. The weight greatly reduces felt recoil when shooting many rounds or heavy loads, and keeps a smooth swing with momentum to keep you on target. Clearly a "shooting machine". Just as important for some, it is a great investment gun as well as a fine collectible Winchester for its condition and unusual, factory documented features.
Both sets of barrels retain 99% condition, mirror bores, strong blue, clear sharp lettering and stampings, double beads, no dents, scratches, or pits, both retaining the original factory specified chokes and chambers, both with tight ribs, both stamped "VP" (VIOLENT PROOF, Winchester's most stringent test of strength), both tight on breech face and hinge pin. The 26" barrels are choked WS1/WS2, internal bore diameter .667 both barrels, minimum barrel wall thickness 30 thou right, 29 thou left. The 30" barrels are choked IC/M (.010/.015), internal bore diameter .672 right, 673 left, minimum barrel wall thickness 27 thou both barrels. Both barrels match factory specs.
The action retains 99% factory finish, action tight, ejectors strong and well timed, perfect screws, crisp trigger pulls, 4.5lbs. right, 4.75lbs. left, trigger guard 99%, non-auto safety, all near new and mechanically excellent.
The factory oil finish is intact, with all wood to metal fit factory perfect, wood is slightly proud along all metal, checkering factory with no sign of wear, factory pad is original issue, all indicating factory original finish with no sign of restoration. There are no cracks, splits, or repairs visible, wide comb and factory cheek piece for comfortable shooting, LOP 14 5/8", drop at heel 2 1/2", drop at comb 1 1/2", neutral cast, factory specs, unaltered; a rare find for a 77 year old gun! Stock can be bent to your specs for about $180 within 10 days of purchase if you so desire.
This gun feels substantial, yet lively between the hands with both sets of barrels, the 30" naturally having a slight forward balance that many prefer for competitive shooting. Cased in a newer leather, top quality case, the gun is attractive from both a shooting and collecting standpoint. Certainly unique in the world of Model 21's and a sound investment, this gun begs to be shot; often.
