The rear sight is the semi buckhorn with the 32B elevator and fine adjustment, sometimes called the California buckhorn sight. The front sight is a fixed blade with a small set screw for windage adjustment. This is the easiest, smoothest operating lever action rifle made by Winchester. Bore is clean, sharp and shoots more accurately than I can. The 24" octagonal barrel is marked with the even 2 line address, the caliber 38 W.C.F. and proof mark. The upper tang has the second of the tang markings. The .38 W.C.F. (38-40) has slightly better speed and ballistics than the 44-40 and almost as much punch at 100 yards. As you know ; the 38-40 bullet actually measure .401" diameter, so you could call it a 40-40, but the factory labeled it 38-40. The 180 grain bullet is easy to obtain and reload. The wood fits as it did when new. Serial #326151 is 110 years old (made in 1906) and is still a reliable deer gun in the hands of a hunter.
