From its home domicile here in West Tennessee comes this historic and collectable .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 2nd Change.From its 131000 range serial number, it was manufactured in 1908. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA. Type is traditional single and double action revolver. Construction is entirely steel metal with original black composite grips. Chambering is .38 Smith & Wesson Special Caliber, not designed for any +P cartridges. Barrel is 5 inch tapered. Bore is 5 groove right hand 1:18.75. Sight system is barrel integral, raised half moon blade front and frame integral fixed groove rear. Frame is medium 5 screw, ancestor to the K frame, with Round Butt grip frame. Trigger is .265 smooth face service width, with matching checkered serration spur hammer. Cylinder Capacity is Six Rounds of .38 Special standard or low velocity ammunition. This revolver is Not designed for +P ammo or anything approaching 1000 fps velocity. Ignition is hammer nose type firing pin. Safety system is internal transfer bar. Weight empty is 29 ounces, with center of gravity at the trigger, 32 ounce vicinity loaded. Maximum overall length is 10 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame butt; 4 3/4 inches high, and with a lateral thickness of only 1.43 inches. Finish was originally polished surface blued steel, with color casehardened trigger and hammer. This revolver has been professionally refinished, but has visible residual surface pitting on the cylinder and frame laterals. We rate it as Good Refinish, perhaps Very Good, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. With the exception of a faint squib ring 1 inch back of the muzzle, bore has clear rifling. Squib is not conspicuous on the barrel surface. Black Composite grips are original factory.
