From duty with the Service de Police de Montréal, Montreal Police Department in English, comes these attractive, serviceable and historic Service Revolvers. Manufacturer was Smith & Wesson of Springfield, MA, From their B letter prefixed serial numbers, they were issued early 1990s under Chief Alain Sainte-Germain, and served until the department switched to semi autos around the Millennial Year. Type is traditional swingout double and single action service revolver with transfer bar safety mechanism. Named model is .38 Military and Police, with numbered Model 10, Tenth Engineering change. Barrel is one piece 4 inch Heavy, .770 outside diameter at the muzzle. Bore has 1:18.75 five groove right hand rifling. Sights are barrel integral serrated ramp front, with fixed notch frame integral rear. Capacity is 6 rounds of .38 Special, interchangeably with +P ammunition; type is traditional double and single action with transfer bar internal safety device; and construction is entirely steel with Smith & Wesson K Frame Square Butt grip frame. Ignition is hammer nose firing pin. with transfer bar internal safety mechanism. Trigger and hammer are .312 smooth face combat trigger with .265 serrated spur hammer. Grips are new replacement imitation ivory magna type, with medallions. Dimensions are 9 inches overall length, 5 inches height, and 1.425 cylinder thickness. Weight empty is 33 ounces, centered at the trigger. Finish is polished surface blued steel, with matte steel verticals. Case colored hammer and trigger are now dark toned. Other surface detractions are moderate, principally edge wear, grip frame wear, and finish freckling. We rate these model 10s as Good Condition, 70 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for our distinguished shoppers to check our grading for themselves. Bore, cylinder chambers, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Blast effect to the underside of the frame top strap directly above the barrel's forcing cone is negligible, only a faint impress. Cylinder face to forcing cone gap measures .006 to .009; and these facts, coupled with the faint carbon on the cylinder face, indicates to us that these revolvers have not undergone very much firing, certainly not with +P rounds. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent; hammer travels an additional 5 degrees or more on all six positions in double action after the cylinder times into place. On single action, the hammer travels an additional 20 degrees or more on all six after timing. The single action trigger pulls gauge at 3 to 4 1/2 pounds. Lateral play to the cylinders is minimal, with the trigger relaxed, and negligible with the trigger fully depressed.
