The Model 84M is Kimber's rendition of the legendary Mauser claw-extractor, controlled-round-feed action, which Kimber has flawlessly executed. In this caliber the 84M founded Kimber's rifle line and established Kimber's repuation for long-gun quality. Chambered in inherently accurate .308 Win, the Longmaster Classic was Kimber's long-range premium model built with high-grade wood and a carefully crafted heavy stainless barrel. With outstanding ballistics, the .308 Winchester is a perennial favorite with many tactical shooters, competitors and hunters. Able to take most North American game, but with less recoil than most of its peers, the .308 is one of the easiest shooting .30 cal's available. The long 24” barrel on the Longmaster maximizes the cartridge's velocity and accuracy.
This 24" Kimber 84M Longmaster Classic is built for both accuracy and looks. The long, heavy, fluted, tapered barrel has a frosted, low-reflection natural stainless finish, which is in striking contrast to the hand-rubbed A-Grade well-figured walnut stock, checkered on the wrist and fore end, and blued receiver. The bolt body is polished white. A factory-installed 3/8" textured rubber recoil pad behind a 3/16” black spacer caps the butt. The fore end and stock toe have pre-installed swivel studs. The trigger guard and floor plate are black metal and the wrist is protected by a synthtic cap. The capacity of the fixed box magazine is 5. A hinged floor plate, controlled by a knurled latch inside the trigger guard, allows for quick unloads. Accuracy enhancements include a match-grade chamber, adjustable trigger spec'd for a crisp 3.5-4 lb pull, and a free-float barrel. Controls include a smooth bolt knob and rear cocking indicator. Behind the bolt on the right side is a M70-type 3-stop wing safety. The 3 stops are “fire”, “lock-all”, and “lock-trigger” while allowing the action to cycle. The bolt release is an easy spring-loaded catch on the left side. The 84M has classic controlled-feed with fixed blade ejector. Popularized by Mauser and early Winchester M70's, the large claw extractor ensures reliable feeding, and the ejector lets the shooter control the trajectory of ejected shells. The mounts consist of matte Leupold rings and 2-piece std-dovetail bases. The hard case is a black plastic ProMAX PillarLock unit with foam padding.
Purchased new in 2011 by its one and only owner, this rifle (s/n KM34xxx) is in Excellent low-use condition. The owner estimates that the rifle has shot only a few boxes (<50 rds) of premium ammo (Fed GM Match, 168g Sierra BTHP) with excellent accuracy. This 84M's mint condition, particularly the bottom metal and immaculate action, supports the low-use claim. Overall finish condition is 99+%. The only stock condition points noted are a total of 8 light dents that do not break the finish: 2--comb, 2—wrist inside, 1--fore-end bottom, and 3--stock left side in front of the wrist checkering. The butt pad is lightly scuffed. Except for a few normal light wear streaks on the bolt bearing surfaces, there are zero issues noted on the metal. The rifle is exceptionally clean and well maintained (see photos), both inside and out. The bore is bright and shiny Excellent, the action is extremely smooth, and lock up is tight. The Leupold ring/base condition matches that of the rifle.
