Excellent condition for age of weapon. Mechanically excellent. Best sharpshooter US Army Remington rifle during the 1800's thru the turn of the century. The only markings that appear on the weapon are the following "Remington & sons ILion, NY Pat May 3rd 1864 May 7th June 11th Nov 12th Dec 24th 1872 Dec 31st 1872 Sept 9th 1873 Jan 12th March 18th 1874. Ladder sights that go out to 1000 yards and barrel has a cleaning rod that appears original. The 35" barrel bore is in excellent condition. The hammer and trigger mechanisms function perfectly. Overall this weapon has survived over the years quite well. The rolling block rifle was sold to the military's around the world and pulled Remington out of the verge of bankruptcy during the war. Its only competition was the Sharps for long range shooting.This is the American military issue as the .44 caliper. VERY HARD TO FIND as .44 cal American Issue.
