This is Mossberg’s 500 Tactical 8 Shot 12 gauge in matte black finish, with a factory issue Tri-Rail Forend. The 50599 variant issued with a different Center Mass Laser. This one came to us with no laser, and we installed a brand new BSA dot laser. Gun manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Laser importer and warrantor is BSA of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, double slide bars and complete forend structure, bolt, internal parts and trigger built into an alloy receiver. Outer forend, pistol grip, safety button, and trigger group housing are high impact polymer. Caliber chambering is 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch shells interchangeably. Barrel is 20 inch Cylinder Bore, .725 vicinity muzzle diameter, with traditional hex base brass bead front sight. Like all 12 gauge 500s, this one’s receiver is 4 screw drilled for a Weaver 82 or 417S, or similar rail for receiver mounted optics or lights. Heat shield is Masen Company black polymer, vented trench gun type. Magazine holds 7 rounds of 2 3/4 inch shells, or 6 rounds of 3 inchers, so fully loaded capacity on 2 3/4 inch is 7 + 1. Forend is Tri-Rail factory, with lateral 4 Slot Picatinny Rails, and a 12 Slot Lower Rail; with full length steel housing underneath it. The BSA detachable laser is a 650 series, rated for 650 nm wavelength, and made in the world’s most populous nation. Buttstock is standard 1.5 x 2.5 drop, with 3/4 inch right hand cant, and length of pull measures 14 1/2 inches from the .290 smooth face steel trigger to the end of the 7/8 inch recoil pad. Overall length is 40 1/2 inches. Weight empty is 7 pounds, with center of gravity under the chamber. Finish is matte blued steel, matte finish anodized receiver, and matte black stock and forend. This 500 and its mates come to us from Mossberg’s distribution system. We call them factory demos. Each one has the letter U stamped near its serial number. They served light duty, likely with a sales rep or writer. Surface detractions are minimal, really no more operation streaking and faint edge whitening than what one sees on many new display guns in stores. We rate them as Excellent, 90 percent vicinity by our estimate, but photos ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
