This specimen of the world’s most popular repeating rifle comes close to deserving the designation Excellent, since its receiver blue is so intact and so strong. The receivers on the 94 Winchester have always been so hard that their blue leaves prematurely in most cases. In this one’s case, bluing is strong; however, there is spotting that the photos have not quite captured on the receiver. Left side of receiver has 15 to 20 percent of its area affected by spotting. The most conspicuous area on the left side is between the four rear screws. Right side of receiver is similarly affected, with most of the spotting being very light and concentrated near the top of the receiver. There is a light, irregular, semicircular scratch on the right side of receiver, running from beneath the loading gate rearward to the corner above the trigger. Top tang, the metal behind the hammer, has about 50 percent light brownish spotting. The barrel and its bands are excellent, 90 percent or better; and a similar grading applies to the lever and bolt in our opinion. When we bought this rifle, it had a swivel stud through its forend, which our favorite competent gunsmith has repaired, visible in the photo about 3 inches rearward of the forend band, visible directly above the 3 in the photo. Bore and mechanism are excellent. Serially numbered 39868xx, this 1894 Winchester .30-30 was manufactured in 1973. We’re offering it for only $389.95
