The expression Pocket Rocket is a good one. This Taurus PT740 pistol will also be a hand rocket. Folk with weak or unsure grip capability need to stick with revolvers. This is no pleasant shooting pistol, but it does very well what it was intended for: concealed carry, emphasis on concealment. Apart from the levers, the 740 is only .98 inch thick. Overall length is 6 1/16 inches from the muzzle to the grip frame strut area; and height from the top of the low profile rear sight to the bottom of the magazine floorplate is only 4 1/2 inches. Weight empty is 19 ounces, about the same as a Charter Arms .38. Manufacturer, of course, is Forjas Taurus of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Importer is Taurus International of Miami. Type is striker fired, blowback semi-automatic, but the Taurus mechanism is such that its sear need not be reset as is the case with, say, Glock. Barrel is 3.2 inches. Action is full time double action, 10 pound vicinity by our estimate. Safety features include a firing pin safety, lever safety, center trigger safety, and Taurus patented keyed lock. The internal lock is positioned on the right side of the slide, beside the rear sight, as the photos show. Sights are very low profile 3 white dot stake-on front and dovetail rear that is, amazingly, windage and elevation adjustable. The FS sku suffix, then, does NOT mean fixed sights. Magazine is Taurus factory, and holds 6 rounds of .40 S&W caliber ammunition, 6+1 total loaded capacity. This 740 is what we call a factory demo. It served as a sales rep’s showpiece, possibly even at the annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas last year. Taurus’s serial number lookup confirms a 2012 production date. This pistol comes in its original factory box with both keys for its internal lock, its instruction manual and a never executed factory registration card. Note the Factory Reconditioned sticker on the box. This simply means that, if this pistol develops a mechanical problem, Taurus will repair it free of charge, but they will not offer a freebie refinish, attest the X serial number suffix. It does not need refinishing anyway. Surface detractions are negligible, only faint amounts of slide contact streaking on the barrel surface and really no more than its brand new mates a person sees on display in gun shops. We rate it as Excellent, or Near Mint in Box. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, mechanism and magazine are all bright and clean. Ammunition showing in any of our photos is not included. At press time on this ad, this pistol had no competitor in its price range. The Smith & Wesson Shield commands prices in the $500 vicinity. Kel-tec swore off the .40 S&W caliber a decade ago. Own the Taurus PT740 in the photos for only $ 319.00. Not transferable to civilian residents of California, the District of Colombia, or Massachusetts.

Don't try, either, to circumvent any law; for example, a California civilian may not buy a high capacity magazine and have it shipped to his brother-in-law in Nevada. That is a felony.
