Rifle is (my opinion) in good condition and also has the Winchester letter. The rifle was built in 1899 and stored in the warehouse until 1903. This rifle is unique as it was originally built in black powder. Winchester couldn't sell this rifle due to the popular 30-30. So Winchester converted it into the 32 Win Special and installed a unique rear sight. If you ask how these were converted you will have to direct your question to Winchester. All I can tell you are these facts. Receiver serial number produced 1899, factory letter shows leaving warehouse in 1903 and the current configuration as stated in the letter are stamped over previous configuration when rifle was built in 1899. I am not a NRA or Antique certified firearms "Grading" expert. I am an honest private owner of this firearm. I cannot grade it for you. Pictures are available upon request. I will not disassemble the firearm for pictures of the factory stamps on the bottom of the barrel. I will only email a copy of the factory letter with a non refundable 10% deposit or supply the original with purchase of this rifle. This policy is due to the scam artists out there collecting Winchester letters for dubious reasons. Sorry. I have had this rifle for years and it has been a safe queen.
