Here is Mossberg’s tried and true Model 500 Pump Shotgun chambered in 20 gauge, with full camo attire, the 500 Turkey. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons, New Haven, CT. Type is pump or slide action shotgun. Construction is steel barrel, magazine tube, bolt, internal parts, and trigger, fitted in a light weight alloy frame. Stock and forend are graphite based synthetic. Barrel is 24 inch Accu-Choke, with .582 vicinity full choke tube. Accu Choke tubes are the same thread as Winchester Winchoke® or Browning old style standard Invector, and they are readily available throughout the world. Chambering is 20 gauge, 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch interchangeably. Sight system is a 10 post, .390 wide serrated top Ventilated Rib that sits 1/4 inch above the barrel at mid section. High Visibility Green Fiber Optic front sight, and dual red fiber optic rear make for a bright three dot sighting system. Rear sight is screw adjustable for elevation, with 3 position windage adjustment. Note the 16 ports arrayed near the muzzle to diminish felt recoil and barrel flip. Magazine holds 5 each 2 3/4 inch shells, or 4 each 3 inch shells, so 5+1 capacity on 2 3/4 inch. Alloy receiver is drilled at four points for a number 80 Weaver base, or identically spaced Picatinny rail. Safety is classic Mossberg tang mounted, southpaw friendly on its own, but the 3/4 inch right hand cant of the buttstock conspires against left hand shooters. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches from the smooth face of the matte blue .275 steel trigger to the end of the factory 7/8 inch recoil pad.. Weight empty is 6 pounds 12 ounces, with center of gravity 1 inch forward of the receiver. This specimen comes to us from light duty with Mossberg’s sales reps and writers, and trade show display at venues like the annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas. Surface detractions are minimal to moderate on this specimen, principally edge wear; wear on the rib posts, and faint weakness freckles here and there, as the photos show. We rate this Mossberg as Very Good, 85 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves.
