This heat shield will not work on an 1893 or 1897 Winchester shotgun, or on any of its China Made clones. We already thought of that and tried it on our 1893/97 Cowboy Winchester Copies imported by Interstate Arms. It will, however, work admirably well with most other 12 or 16 gauge plain barrel pump or slide action shotguns. Photos show barrels and magazine tubes from Remington 870, Mossberg 500, and Hawk 6 Shotguns where it works well. Overall length is 13 3/4 inches, so the front face of the barrel lug that holds it onto the magazine tube should be no more than 12 1/2 inches from the front end of the shotgun's receiver. These shields will Not fit the Charles Daly or Akkar Turkish made shotguns. These will fit the Smith & Wesson 1000 / 3000 series shotguns manufactured by Howa in Japan during the 1970s and 1980s; they also fit the 916 series Smith & Wessons made by High Standard during that same period. Construction is pliable vented black polymer, not as sturdy as the steel shields, but sturdy enough and most important, to separate the operator’s hand from a shotgun with a hot barrel. Each one of these comes with its mounting hardware. Mounting and placement is achieved with four blue steel screws that hold double mounting bands just back of the shotgun’s barrel lug in the front, and with dual retaining claws on the rear. The rear retaining claws are too wide for any shotgun smaller than a 16 gauge; and these will not work on Vent Rib shotgun barrels for reasons that ought to be obvious enough.
