Description: Here we have a rare FACTORY LETTERED MODEL 1873 DELUXE RIFLE WITH FACTORY 4X WOOD, AND VERY DESIRABLE EXTRA ORDER 1/2 OCTAGON BARREL, AND 1/2 MAGAZINE. Shipped in 1883, this rifle was in excellent condition before it was restored. This rare and fantastic rifle was restored by Doug Turnbull's father years ago. It is documented by the Turnbull group as his work. The gun remains in 99% condition.

All edges are crisp and unworn, the lettering is clear and sharp, the screws are near perfect all the way around, the wood to metal fit is excellent. Much of this can be brought back in a historically correct restoration, but THE BORE IN THIS GUN IS IN GREAT SHAPE. THAT CANNOT BE BROUGHT BACK IN RESTORATION.

The 24" 1/2 octagon barrel has distinct and hard edged lands and grooves remaining in the .44-40 caliber bore. There is frosting throughout, but only a few small places of actual pitting. I have not looked down a whole lot of 126 year old bores, but I have seen enough of them to know that this rifle was in good shape and the bore is waaaay better than I expected. Even the interior of the action is cripy clean and unworn. This rifle just never saw much use.

The wood is factory checkered 4x wood and original to the gun. Wonderfully figured and fit to perfection, it really is stunning. The checkering is nicely recut and noted in the factory letter. There are no cracks or repairs in the stock and the crescent steel butt plate w/trap door is in perfect condition.

The Turnbull restored guns have really been accepted in the collecting fraternity and this rifle is investment quality all the way. A well worn 1873 Deluxe with these special order features and the desirable.44-40 caliber would sell for over $30K in today's market. I am offering this rifle at a very affordable price. What a great example of what a coveted Winchester Deluxe rifle looked like when the frontiersman opened the crate and got his hands on his prize he ordered months before!

I have more photos of this gun upon request. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER FINE VINTAGE FIREARMS ON THIS WEBSITE. Bid with confidence, you will love this rifle!
