We have a very unique, early Sporting Mauser rifle built around the mid-1920’s by Griffin and Howe (G&H) with features almost never seen on other G&H rifles. If you have studied and collected these fine rifles, thick with vintage American tradition and known as some of the finest custom rifles made in the USA, this gun will interest you. Review the photos closely and you will see this rifle has a full-length solid forged rib, 4 folding leaf sights, ebony forend tip, buffalo horn carved grip cap, jeweled bolt and follower with checkered bolt handle, HALF ROUND/HALF OCTAGON barrel forged out of Poldi-Anticorro steel, built on a highly desirable Mauser 98 sporting action, and stocked with a straight grain stock with the G&H classic cheek rest. You can review all the internet photos of G&H rifles and you will not see another like this one. Rifle No. 108 was built in the 1920’s early in Griffin & Howe history. The 26” barrel retains 98% factory blue, mirror shiny bore with crisp rifling…a 10 out of 10 on the scale, sharp barrel matting and lettering, mounted with folding leaf rear sights ranging from 100 yards to 400 yards. The action retains 99% of the original blue finish, jeweled bolt and magazine follower, crisp trigger pull, all in perfect mechanical order. The straight-grained walnut stock is classic Griffin and Howe, retaining most all its original finish and harboring a few dings and marks proving it has been afield at least a few seasons, yet cared for by its previous owner(s). This rifle came to us with a rock-hard, mushroomed Silvers pad, so we replaced the pad with the identical pad straight from Kynoch in England… a genuine No. 3 Orange Silvers pad. Chambered in the most versatile North American cartridge, the .30-06 Gov’t, hunting antelope at 500 yards with a 110-grain bullet rocketing from the muzzle at 3500 fps, or hunting brown bear or moose with a 220-grain bullet packing over 3000 ft/lbs. of energy, it is no wonder this cartridge has endure for over a century with such great popularity. Sure, it is the most common, but there is a reason for that! Fitted with the Lyman receiver sight, this is a true classic that will be admired in your annual deer camp, coveted by riflemen in the know, and cherished for generations as an investment quality heirloom firearm. Rare, useful, and gorgeous, this is a must have representation of the most famous era of American custom rifles. Thanks for looking!
