Its DJ Date Code puts this Remington 870 Special Purpose Police Magnum shotgun at 21 years of age, manufactured in September of 1989. It has served and protected our fellow citizens in Prince George’s County Maryland, on patrol with that distinguished county’s Police Department. Finish is Special Purpose Parkerized; barrel is 18 inch police cylinder; 2 3/4 and 3 inch chamber capability; Pachmayr Parkerized Steel Tac-Star magazine extension with steel clamp and swivel; capacity 6 + 1 in 2 3/4 inch shells, or 5 + 1 in 3 inch magnums; factory Davis pebble grip synthetic buttstock and traditional Corn-cob serrated synthetic forend. Finish shows extensive streaking throughout from riding in a patrol car; nevertheless, we still classify this shotgun as Very Good finishwise, since no more than 1/3 of its finish is affected by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, should suffice for prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. Operation whitening to the bolt surface is moderate, but the slotted blue steel shell carrier shows only minimal shell contact. We estimate that this shotgun has been fired about 400 rounds, since Maryland annual qualification is likely similar to Tennessee’s, 40 rounds or so a year. It is excellent mechanically; bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Replacement price on a similarly equipped 870 Police is currently upwards of $700. We’re offering this one, however, for only $ 319.95.
