Our East Tennessee neighbor Mr. Frost planted a good many of his excellent quality traditional Japan-made knives throughout the country during the Reagan Era, and here is one of his most popular patterns. This is the Frost Wrangler, made on the order of the Case 6347 large stockman. All three blades, the main 3 1/8 clip blade and the secondary spey and sheepfoot blades, are surgical stainless, and none of them have been sharpened that we can tell. Handle panels are white genuine bone with black freckle patterns here and there. Backsprings are stainless lined with genuine brass; panel rivets are brass; and bolsters are nickeled steel. This is an excellent knife, and while its backspring resiliency is not as strong as a Case, it operates flawlessly and is indeed a flawless specimen. Ironically, the distributor removed the inked-on word Japan from the back of the main clip blade, since this was sold well before the present wave of Chinese Frosts began flooding the country.
