More research indicates that this is indeed a S&W "Berkart" revolver made circa 1925. The revolver is a .22 LR caliber, double-action. The six chambered cylinder mates with a six inch barrel. This revolver has been refinished, possibly at the factory as is indicated by a star stamped after the S/N. The S/N 39xxxx is found on the front strap,on the bottom of the barrel beneath the ejector rod and the rear of the cylinder. There is a factory, screw- adjustable rear sight and a pinned front blade show a Patridge sight picture. The trigger is blued, smooth and rounded. The blued, flat-faced hammer is arched with a knurled hammer pad. The firing pin is internally located and spring loaded. The original, worn smooth, oversized target grips cover the round backstrap with the unique "Bekeart" profile. The bore is clean and sharp. This revolver was one of four that was purchased from the estate of an old Prewar Bullseye shooter that shot NRA Bulleye matches prior to 1957. When he no longer used a revolver he had the metal and grips refinished.
