Here is Maverick / Mossberg’s new, slick, no-frills import Over-and-Under 12 gauge manufactured by Khan Art S.S. in Turkey for Mossberg’s Texas wing of its corporation. This is a good looking, all-weather over-and-under, the first we’ve had in years with synthetic buttstock and forend. Named model number is simply Field Hunter, numbered model MAVFG-201 or SKU 75445. Chambering is for 12 gauge, 2 3/4 and 3 inch interchangeably; and it sports Benelli-thread Improved Cylinder and Modified Choke Tubes, easily interchangeable and readily available. Rib is serrated solid rib, and barrels are firmly attached at both ends, just like they are on any over-under shotgun; lack of spacer covers between the barrels not only saves on manufacturing expense, it also diminishes heat wave distortion from prolonged firing sessions. Mechanism is extractor type, not ejector, so spent hulls are easily saved for reloading. Trigger is single selective and the safety lever acts as selector for barrel firing sequence. Mechanism is mechanical transfer, more sure-firing than conventional recoil transfer shotguns. Finish is a very nice, smooth, weather-resistant matte blue with matte anodized inlay pattern receiver that holds gross empty weight down to a light 7 pounds. Overall length is 44 1/4 inches, and length of pull from the center of the smooth-faced single trigger to the end of the soft encased rubber recoil pad is a dead standard 14 inches. This is not only a good shotgun, it’s a good looking shotgun and won’t glare in a dove field or duck pit. The best part is the price.
