It is chambered for the modern, rimless 7.5x54 French cartridge(similar to 7.62x51/.308). The MAS-36 carries a spike bayonet, reversed, in a tube below the barrel. It has a aperture rear sight and post front sight. It has a five-round, Mauser-style double-column magazine with a removable floor plate. The MAS-36 saw service with both French and Nazi forces during WWII. The MAS-36 was extensively used by French Army and colonial defense forces post WWII in such areas as Indochina, Algerian War and the Suez Crisis. The MAS-36 was used against U.S. Troops in Vietnam. The MAS-36 remained in French service into the late 1970's. This MAS-36 has a bright bore with good lands. Stock and hand guards are free of cracks.(has a minor arsenal repair in stock check area). There is a hard to read stock cartouche. Serial numbers are matching on: receiver, stock(both front/back), bolt and trigger guard. Magazine floor plate and bayonet are mismatched. This MAS-36 is NOT import marked meaning it was brought into the US before the Gun Control Act of 1968 or is a bring back. It appears to have never gone through a arsenal rework as it still has the original factory brush painted on black metal paint likely making it manufactured pre WWII. Rifle is coming from an estate.
