This Turkish M-48 Mauser came from one of our good friends and distant kinsmen from the East End of our county. It is a specimen of a limited acquisition that our even more distant possible kinsmen, Cherry's in North Carolina, came across in the late 1990s. This rifle is mint condition, never issued, and it is a very attractive and slick-made post-WWII Mauser. It has all matching numbers, and its finish, bore, and mechanism are all excellent. The sling is an original military sling, well oiled and very pliable. Barrel length is standard 23 inch, and the stock is entirely Turkish walnut. The fit and finish or this military rifle, which rivals or exceeds that of its German made predecessors, helps explain the excellent fit and finish on most of the Turkish made firearms showing up in the U.S. Market nowadays. Turkish munitions manufacturers, after all, have been at it for over 500 years, much longer than the upstart Europeans and Americans.
