This late 1990s Production Sig Arms P-226 Pistol has its original factory steel 15 shot magazines, both of them LE Marked, ban period restricted to Law Enforcement. That is no longer an issue, of course, in most of the country at least for the time being. This Exeter NH Sig does not have a date code, and slide is black stainless and so marked. This Sig has served to protect and defend our fellow Americans in New England for a decade or so, before its Department traded it to Smith & Wesson. It has moderate normal holster wear, mostly on the sharp edges of the slide, with some white streaking on the forward areas of the frame. Right side of the original grip has moderate scouring. We rate it as Very Good finishwise, since we estimate that 85 percent of its original finish is intact. Photos, of course, should permit prospective owners to judge finish grade for themselves. It is excellent mechanically. Slide contact whitening to the barrel and guide rod are moderate, and we estimate this Sig has fired between 1,000 and 1500 rounds during its career. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright, clean, and excellent. Double action trigger pull is stiff but consistent, and the single action trigger pull is a crisp 4 5/8 pounds with no felt overtravel. Classification is what S&W calls traditional double action, double action from the decocked position on the first shot, then single action on subsequent shots during the firing session. The Sig 226, of course, does not have a manually operated safety. It has a decocker lever to put the car in park. Sig has a firing pin block safety that prevents accidental discharge if the pistol is dropped, yet even with that, Sigs have the best single action trigger pull of all from the factory. Caliber, of course, is standard 9mm. Weight empty is 34 ounces; finish is black; barrel length is 4.40 inches; and it has the conventional white bar rear and white dot front sights. Finish is original matte blue, steel slide and alloy frame. Original factory night sights, though weak, still show about 20 percent luminosity from our dark room examination. They present a serviceable three dot sighting picture anyway in normal light conditions. These are always point of aim from the factory. Sometimes operator adjustment is necessary, but rarely sight adjustment. This pistol is eminently serviceable and attractive. Replacement price on the 226 is over $900 in our area, if a person can even find one.
