You are bidding on a Rock Island Arsenal Battle Rifle Model 1903, 30-06 S/N 290194.
The barrel is marked “R.I.A. / Ordnance bomb / 11-18". The top of the receiver is marked "US. / ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL / MODEL 1903" over the serial number 290194. I’m told that the rifle is a model ‘03 with an A3 bolt.
Note: The introduction of improved heat treatment was instituted by serial number 285,506 at Rock Island Arsenal. Rifles manufactured after these serial numbers are referred to as "high numbered" receivers and are commonly stated to be safe to shoot.
The stock has not been refinished, has no cartouches and is in excellent condition. All metal parts appear to be original finish.
This a very good looking rifle with original front sight and adjustable ladder type rear sight. All marks are shown in the pictures. The sling is not original. I’m told by K. Genecco Gun Works, Stockton, CA that the condition of this rifle is ‘NRA Excellent’.
I bought this rifle, unused, in 1955¬¬¬. It was used a few times in the late 50’s or early 60’s, but for the most part, it has spent the last 55 years in a case in the closet.
