Beretta SO 3 EELL engraved—English Grip Double Trigger
This fine sidelock Beretta was made in 1954 before the EELL designations were applied. The engraving and wood figure equal the EELL guns of more modern manufacture. The frame is marked S3. The gun is in excellent condition with nice dimensions and balance for a fine field gun. The weight is just 7lbs. 2oz. and balances right on the hinge pin. With the classic double triggers (hard to find these days) and English stock you have a very dynamic upland gun that is equally at home on the sporting clays field.
The barrels are 27 1/2” long with F/F chokes (.030 bottom, .040 top), 95% blue, 2 3/4” chambers, strong and properly timed ejectors, tight ribs, mirror bores, no dents or dings. The receiver is wonderfully engraved with full coverage rose and scroll engraving that is clear and sharp, perfect screws, clean crisp double triggers, long tang engraved trigger guard with 99% niter blue, action is tight on face and hinge, with lever far right of center.
The wood is nicely figured oil finished with fine (28 lpi) checkering that is still clear and defined, 14 1/2” LOP to leather covered pad, 2 ¼” drop at heel, 1 7/16” drop at comb, neutral cast, for wonderful shooting dimensions, no cracks, splits, or repairs, excellent wood to metal fit. The straight hand stock and double triggers really make this gun look racey and classic in its lines. What a wonderful example of fine European gun maker’s art, and the epitome of the classic game gun.
There are very few Beretta SO over/unders configured as this one is. Replacement value is over double the cost of this gun. Chokes can be altered to your specifications for $55 per barrel by Briley. PHOTOS UPON REQUEST. Thanks for looking
