Probably made for the thrifty post-war market for Western expansion, State Militia groups, Military Academy's etc. Bore is great, lock functions perfectly, wood is outstanding; very shootable or collectible. With correct period ramrod. We get to see many Civil War era firearms and muskets made shortly thereafter and have not seen one this clean and original condition with not restorations evident.
