We hear talk of “investment quality” firearms, and part of that discussion is rarity and desirable features. What makes a gun VALUABLE? And what makes a gun a good investment? Certainly it must be a gun that appeals to the new owner, but there are certain things the buying public seeks when purchasing vintage, collectible shotguns to admire and shoot. Most are aware that the Parker Bros. double shotgun is the most coveted of the American vintage double makers. This fine little Parker, sn194158, hits all of the marks of a desirable, RARE, INVESTMENT QUALITY shotgun. Avid collector/shooters know that Parker guns in 28gauge are in short supply and high demand. Find one on an “OO” frame, with ejectors, English stock, excellent condition, AND FACTORY 24” BARRELS, and you have a very rare and desirable gun in which to invest your money. THIS IS THE GUN! One of 38 VH Grade 28ga. guns made with 24” barrels, one of about 120 total Parkers with factory 24” barrels, and one of only a few with all of these factory features combined, this gun fits the definition of RARE. Add to that how cool it feels in hand at 5 1/4lbs. and how fun it is to shoot, and you have a great new upland gun for your quail, grouse, and close range pheasants.
The factory 24” Vulcan steel barrels have very good bores, choked IC/F (.012/.030, can be altered for $60 per barrel), internal bore diameter of .566/.564, minimum barrel wall thickness of 22 thousandths right, 21 thousandths left, 2 ¾” chambers, ribs are tight and ring true, double ivory beads, 99% re-rust blued barrels, no dents or dings, ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin, all in excellent condition.
The receiver has been bone and charcoal case colored and retains 100% color (the colors are beautiful, but if you don’t like the boldness, talk to me about solutions), excellent screws, sharp engraving, double triggers with excellent pulls, action tight with lever way right of center, strong well timed ejectors, trigger guard has 100% niter blue, all mechanically excellent.
The wood is nicely figured for a VH Grade, restored to perfection with an oil finish, excellent checkering, perfect wood to metal fit, no cracks, splits, chips, or repairs, FACTORY ENGLISH STOCK is a delight on this little gun and is very graceful to the eye and hand, LOP 14 ¼” to an early Silver’s pad (may be factory as it is the older style with small hole plugs), 2 1/8” drop at heel, 1 3/8” drop at comb, neutral cast for excellent shootable dimensions, perfect match to the factory letter.
This is a fully restored, RARE, DESIRABLE Parker small bore with all original factory parts numbered to the gun, and all of the goodies you could want. A great little bird gun being offered at a very affordable price for your long walks afield. You will see other guns priced similarly with standard length barrels. The ejectors, English stock, “OO” frame, and factory 24” barrels all add a good deal of value to this gun. A RARE OPPORTUNITY NOT LIKELY TO BE SEEN AGAIN FOR YEARS TO COME.
