Beretta's Cheetah series pistols have always been their most classy, best feeling gun of all. 81 production ran from 1976 until 1984. Recent successor 81FS was short lived. Manufacturer was Pietro Beretta, of Gardone, V.T., Made in Italy. Slide is so marked and frame is so proofed. Importer stamp is neatly roll stamped on the trigger guard. Type is blowback action, single and double action semi automatic hammer fired pistol. Chambering is .cal. 7.65, so marked on the slide, better known to us Americans as .32 ACP caliber. Construction is steel barrel, slide, and working parts fitted into a 7075 lightweight alloy frame. Barrel is 3 3/4 inch steel one piece, with a 1:16 right hand six groove bore. Slide is open top, serrrated laterals rear. Spring is single coil; and guide rod is one piece steel. Sights are slide integral blade front, and dovetailed black notch rear that is drift adjustable for windage only. Trigger is .323 serrated face with overtravel stop. Double action trigger pull is smooth and consistent two stage 12 pound vicinity, with 1 1/8 inch of travel. Single action pull is two stage 1/2 inch travel with 5 pound vicinity pull, with minimal felt creep and overtravel. Hammer is .260 serrated round commander type. Magazine is original issue serrated side steel bodied, so 12+1 fully loaded capacity. Main safety is ambidextrous frame mounted lever type. Safety will lock in all three positions, full rest, half cock and fully cocked, but the levers do Not decock the pistol. It does NOT have any magazine safety; it Will fire single shot with no magazine. Safety and slide release levers are original factory extended serrated surface. Dimensions are similar to other Cheetahs: 6 3/4 inches length; 5 inches height; and .98 inch slide thickness at the port. Weight empty is 23 ounces. Frame is first type round trigger guard, with smooth surface grip frame. Grips are factory polymer. Slide and barrel finish are polished surface blue and gloss black anodized. Surface detractions on this Cheetah and its mates are only moderate, principally edge wear and occasional finish freckling. We rate them as Very Good condition, 80 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. The 10 will not be cleaned; on the ones we have cleaned, however, Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all sharp and clear. These pistols and their mates served in their native country with the Polizia Penitenziaria, the Italian Ministry of Justice’s Bureau of Prisons. They were manufactured in 1980 and 1981. We estimate each one been fired fewer than 1000 times with Fiocchi 71 grain ammunition, no rounds at all for a Beretta 81. Replacement pricing for a current production Cheetah is $815.00 on berettausa com. The 81 is not presently imported into the US, and they are somewhat scarce.
