Description: Here is the original Colt Laptop - but not a computer!

This is a unique Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol made in 1862 (serial #201xxx). It is 31 caliber percussion cap and ball, six shot, with 5" barrel and non-factory real ruby eyed steer head carved Mastadon ivory grips. The gun is in decent condition, with good bore and all matching numbers. There is scattered pitting, but nothing deep, and it has the usual wear marks from a gun which was obviously used. It has considerable silver plating on the brass trigger guard and back strap, which is not common. It is completely functional, mechanically. The factory walnut grips, numbered to the gun, are included, and don't show any severe use. Included accessories are bullet mold, nipple wrench, a vintage tin of Eley percussion caps, German screw driver, powder flask and cast bullets, both ball and conical shaped.

The Colt is cased in a period Victorian lap desk (also called a writing box or writing slope) from the mid-1800's - same vintage as the gun. The case has been expertly restored, and includes a vintage pen, extra nibs (pen points) in a small silver cylinder nib case, as well as two crystal ink wells with silver plated caps. The case itself is rosewood veneer and other hardwoods, with some mother of pearl inlays and brass hardware. This is not a fancy lap desk or writing box by comparison to some of the period, but was well made, and probably served a traveling businessman satisfactorily. Most importantly, the Colt hidden inside allowed for a much quicker solution to a sudden problem than writing a letter!

Now, the Colt, and its vintage case, will make a handsome and unique display of a truly historic weapon.

We can take VISA or MasterCard for an additional 4% fee, and will consider trade for U.S. gold and silver coins at spot value, as well as some other Colts..
