This listing is for the exact rifle in the photos. Mossberg’s 4x4 rifles entered the field in 2007, after a 40 year absence from the high powered rifle manufacturing field. Mossberg got it right, and here is one of their best, the 4x4 in Mossberg’s MarineCote® finish, chambered in .270 Winchester Short Magnum caliber. Manufacturer and warrantor is O.F. Mossberg & Sons of New Haven, CT, and Eagle Pass, TX. Discontinued factory number is 27469 or thereabouts. Type is bolt action high powered rifle. Construction is steel barrel, bolt, and receiver with polymer trigger housing, and removable internal polymer magazine. Finish is durable, attractive Marine Cote® electroless nickel. Chambering is .270 WSM Caliber, with 3 shot detachable magazine, so 3+1 total capacity. Barrel is 24 inch fluted, 1:10 right hand six groove button rifling with counterbored or recessed muzzle. Barrel to receiver junction is Savage type collar. This rifle comes furnished with mounted #51 and #36 Weaver Scope Bases, with a 4 11/16 screw spread distance on the action. Bolt is Steyr type Spiral Fluted body. Trigger is .240 factory LBA type, set on its 3 pound vicinity off the line setting, with negligible felt creep. Safety is very quiet, mounted on the right side behind the bolt handle. Stock is classic Monte Carlo Gray Laminate, with machine cut checkering on the forend and pistol grip areas, and five lateral ventilation ports. Sling studs are conventional blue steel. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches from the LBA trigger face to the end of the 1 inch decelerator type recoil pad. Weight empty is 6 pounds 13 ounces, with center of gravity at the breech face. This 4x4 MarineCote served light duty as a showgirl for Mossberg’s sales team or with their writers. It has the letter U stamped near its serial number. Surface detractions are minimal, principally faint contact marking on the stock and barrel. We rate this Mossberg 4x4 as Excellent, 90 to 95 percent vicinity by our estimate. Photos, at any rate, ought to suffice for our distinguished shoppers to judge finish grade for themselves. Bore, chamber, and mechanism are all bright and clean. If this rifle was ever fired, it was no more than 50 to 100 times. Fewer than 1 in 5 of its mates showed any green copper on our cleaning patches. It comes in a relabeled Mossberg factory box with lock and instruction manual that contains Mossberg’s warranty statement, 1 year on 4x4.
