Famed musician Stevie Wonder got serious about gun control during a recent concert at Central Park’s SummerStage.
Wonder broke from his concert to impart a few words about being more accountable with guns, fixing the planet, and one another.
“As much as we have made some incredible strides, we have also really gone to this crazy place, like them against us and us against them” said Wonder. “We really need to do that thing called fixing the planet, by fixing each other, fixing ourselves. That includes everyone, me and us, in the spirit of love.”
Wonder said it doesn’t matter what organization you affiliate with, so long as we hold ourselves accountable.
“What we have to do, whether you’re NRA or whatever, is find a place of everyone being accountable for every gun we have here,” said Wonder. “If you want to shoot the gun, then claim the bullet,” he continued. “It doesn’t deprive people of their freedom, but it does hold people accountable because you can’t take a life back.”

I read the article, then the comments, then back to the article, looking for any negative connotations to Wonder’s comments. I eventually figured out some people didn’t read, or possibly comprehend what he said. All he said was “personal accountability for your actions”, something the NRA has been preaching forever. (Me also, but only for the last 39 years or so) The people with the negative comments need to go back and get ;past the “Stevie Wonder” part and READ the article. This was MILES away from his comments on the Trayvon Martin shooting.
If one reads what he said and resists the urge to find fault because he’s a celebrity or to read it as a call for government control, there’s really nothing wrong with what he said unless there was more to it than what’s quoted here. All he’s quoted here saying is that everyone should cool their rhetoric and individuals should take responsibility for their own actions. Isn’t that what we all want?
It appears that celebrities have instant forum platforms when it comes to speaking their mind. But we pay them to entertain rather than to share their opinions. More often society thinks that actors are the real deal, when in reality they pretend to be something they are not.

Stevie Wonder should go to South Chicago and tell that to the black community that has the highest murder rate and the strictest gun laws of the country, “Walk away”. LOL sorry it isn’t funny but it is laughable. Stevie Wonder is blind so he has body guards and I’m OK with that, but for him to say something that stupid is laughable.
