Three are in custody following an early morning shooting at a Detroit gas station. The shooting was captured by surveillance video and shows an altercation that quickly escalated to violence. The attacker, a woman, shot several times into the passenger compartment of a nearby car, striking the driver multiple times.

The video shows the woman getting a pistol out of a the glove compartment of a Dodge Charger. She tucks the pistol into her skirt, using her underwear as an improvised inside-the-waistband holster. Several people try to stop the woman and de-escalate the situation but ultimately fail.

After getting the gun she approaches the car, a Pontiac Grand Prix, along with her friend and the two can be seen yelling into the passenger compartment.

Seconds into the confrontation a man jumps out of the gas station to intervene, with another woman following behind him, holding a cell phone.

Realizing that the situation is about to intensify, the man from the gas station knocks down the man yelling into the car and deflects shots from the shooter after she draws her pistol from her skirt.

She then turns to fire several shots into Grand Prix, shooting the driver. The car then jolts forward, striking the man on the ground. Then she turns back to shoot the man from inside the gas station, who tackles her while again ducking fire. As the two go down she nearly shoots the woman with the phone.

According to reports the woman was disarmed after being tackled with the help of second man in the Pontiac. Friends of the victim were able to drive the man to a hospital nearby for treatment.

Police say the driver was shot several times but did not suffer life-threatening injuries. The video was taken as part of “Project Green Light Detroit” which started earlier this year.

Project Green Light Detroit is a partnership with a handful of gas stations. These gas stations stream surveillance video directly to the police in order to monitor high-risk parts of the city.

Police had the woman in custody shortly after the shooting. “There were people already positioning themselves in the community that wanted to reach out and touch us as soon as they saw her picture,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig in a Click on Detroit report.

“There is rhyme and reason for why we started with gas stations,” said Richard Tao, a senior adviser to the mayor writes the Detroit News. “We’re really looking to go into the neighborhoods, go into the tough areas and help out.”
